Mervyn Edwards 2022 History Programme & Other Talks



Local historian Mervyn Edwards' Green Door History 4 Health programme (see separate page) has proved so popular that additional illustrated talks have now been organised independently of his Green Door arrangements.

Each of the presentations will be held in the Victoria Lounge (the former Reardon's) in Adventure Place, Hanley, unless otherwise noted below.

Admission to each event will be £3, payable on the day.

All the one-hour presentations are on Mondays, beginning at 11 am promptly. Everyone is welcome.

  • Mon Jun 20th: Walk: The Demon Drink in Silverdale
    Meet on the Parade (shopping precinct & car park in the middle of the village). Natter at the Bush pub, High Street.
  • Mon Jul 11th: Walk: Trentham: Burying the Dead
    Meet outside the Poachers Cottage on the A34. Natter at the Bush pub, High Street. Natter at sane venue, afterwards.
  • Mon Jul 18th: Walk: Stoke Churchyard
    Meet outside the Church, Glebe St. Natter at the Glebe or Wheatsheaf pubs.
  • Mon Aug 22th: Walk: Porthill: Home to the Potters
    Meet at Bradwell Lodge, top of Porthill Bankk. Natter at the Potters Wheel pub, Bradwell Lane.
  • Mon Sep 12th: Oatcakes: The Food of the Gods
    Talk at the Victoria Lounge

    Venue: At Newcastle Borough Museum & Art Gallery, to accompany a new exhibition of Berry’s artwork
  • Mon Jan 31st: Talk: Taking the Plunge: Public Baths in North Staffordshire
  • Mon Feb 21st: Talk: Travelling by Tram Around the Potteries
  • Mon Feb 28th: Talk: Arthur Berry: Poems of the Potteries
    Venue: At Newcastle Borough Museum & Art Gallery, to accompany a new exhibition of Berry’s artwork
  • Mon Mar 21st: Talk: Stanley Hancock’s Vale Place, Hanley
  • Mon Apr 11th: Walk: Kingsway, Stoke
    Meet outside the Wheatsheaf pub, Campbell Place. Natter at same venue afterwards.
  • Mon May 23rd: Walk: Longton Cemetery
    Meet outside the main gate, Spring Garden Road. Natter TBA.

  • Please note that the spacious function room in which we shall be holding the talks is accessed by a few steps.
    The excellent and comfortable lounge is well-known to Mervyn's regular audience, selling first-class food and drink.
